Treasuring Christ Above Marriage
This past month, I posted about different aspects of nurturing our marriage. I got a bit sentimental when I reflected on how I met Grace in UP Diliman more than 10 years ago (“Remembering the Past“). Then my Valentine’s Day post was focused on encouraging couples to make peace with each other (“Marriage and Valentine’s Day“). Two weeks ago, I wrote about finances in marriage (“Marriage and Money“). And last week, I applied the 4 qualities of good team players to the husband and wife marriage team (“The Marriage Team“).
Love Jesus
To cap off the love month of February, I would like to “de-emphasize” marriage and “emphasize” Jesus Christ. He is after all the One whom we ought to love above all. Jesus said that whoever does not hate his own family and even his own spouse cannot be His disciple (Paraphrased from Luke 14:26). Jesus is not asking us to literally hate our partner. What He is saying is that our love for Him should be so much more than our love for our mate such that the love for our spouse will look like hatred.
How is your love for Jesus? Do you even spend time to get to know Him? Are you amazed at His awesome power, wisdom, and love?

Love Jesus
Yesterday, I listened to an excerpt of a message by Frank Viola on the majesty of this amazing God-Man Jesus! Praise God I stumbled on to that video. My love for Christ was rekindled. I’m falling in love with Jesus all over again.
Jesus made all things.
Jesus made me.
Jesus loved me before I was even born.
Jesus loved me before I even got to know Him.
Jesus loved me while I am still a sinner and He chose to die for me.
Jesus loves me still today.
And Jesus will keep on loving me forever and ever.
It’s simply amazing! I could go on and on….as the song says, “I could sing of Your love forever…”
Love Jesus
Anyway, here’s my point. Treasure Christ above your marriage. Love Him more than you love your spouse. Value Him more than anything else that you value. Follow Him to the ends of the earth. Give up everything that He asks you to give up. Choose to make Him known rather than making yourself known.
That’s what matters.
JESUS is what matters!
P.S. I share in our marriage seminar that loving Jesus above all does not mean we will love our partner less. In fact, if you put Jesus first before your spouse, you will put your spouse first before everyone else (except Jesus, of course).
P.P.S. If you’re interested to listen to the excerpt of the message of Frank Viola, please click here to go to the Facebook post. It’s just 13 mins. and will surely be worth it.
